Potato Summit 2024
NICCI organized the First ever Potato Summit 2024 in association with the Government of Nepal, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), on World Potato Day, 30th May 2024, and achieved remarkable success.
The summit was well-organized with the generous support of NLG Insurance Company Ltd. as the Sponsor (Insurance Partner) along with other partner organizations.
As conceived, the summit aimed to foster knowledge exchange, promote innovation, and address challenges faced by stakeholders in Nepal's potato industry. The keynote speaker, Mr. NK Jha from Technico Agri Science Limited, a subsidiary of ITC India, provided profound insights into the potato industry in India, including its history, government initiatives, and stakeholder engagement. His presentation highlighted the vision, technology, and practices in India, making the summit a milestone event in Nepal’s agricultural sector.
The summit attracted a diverse group of participants, including government representatives, experts, private sector enterprises, students, farmers, and other enthusiasts. The whole-day event featured an inaugural session, a closing session, and three technical panel discussion sessions, all of which were well-attended and full of enthusiasm.
The summit covered a wide range of themes, including sustainable cultivation practices, technological advancements, market trends, pest and disease management, value addition, and policy frameworks. The discussions among experts, panelists, government officials, and other stakeholders were highly productive. The summit’s outcomes are expected to contribute to policy reform and promote potato cultivation as well as overall agricultural development in the country.
The summit also featured other dignitaries from global and local perspectives and showcased samples and posters of potatoes available in different parts of Nepal and value chain products.
NICCI extends its gratitude to all the Sponsors for the financial support to make the Summit successful.
