Interaction with Consulate General of Nepal to India Mr. Eshor Raj Poudel

Nepal-India Chamber of Commerce & Industry (NICCI) organized a brainstorming interaction session with the Consulate General of Nepal to India Mr. Eshor Raj Poudel on Wednesday, 24th March 2021 at NICCI secretariat. The session chaired by the Vice President Mr. Sunil KC was attended by Mr. R. B. Rauniar, Secretary General and Convener of the Trade and Transit Committee at NICCI, Mr. Prakash Singh Karki, Chairperson of the Road and Transit Committee at FNCCI and Mr. Naresh Agrawal, Vice President of Nepal Freight Forwarders' Association.

Welcoming the Consulate General, Convener Mr. R.B. Rauniar explained the point-wise issues that how the business community can overcome the issues they have been facing and also suggested amicable solutions thereby keeping the cost of doing business and making the Nepalese consignments hassle-free and cost effective in the international market. He also handed over the documentation of the segregated issues that need to be seen by the Consulate General of Nepal for lobbying with concerned government and private agencies in Nepal and India.

In the program, Vice President Mr. KC said since the Nepal bound cargos are increasing day by day through the Kolkata and Vishakhapatm port, since there should be harmonious relations and good understanding between the stakeholders in the field of transit and logistics between Nepal and India and such issues are to be addressed amicably and timely, NICCI has planned a K2K forum to be organized in Nepal and India in alternative year with wide participation mainly from the Port Operators in India, transporters and railway operators, shipping lines in Kolkata and Vishakhapatnam, Consul General in Kolkata, Economic Counsellors in the Embassy of Nepal in Delhi and Embassy of India in Kathmandu, ICDs in Nepal, ICPs in Nepal-India Borders, the importers and freight forwarders in Nepal, Ministry of Commerce, NTWC, NTDB and other stakeholders to discuss the issues related to trade and transit between the stakeholders of Nepal and India, for which he proposed for support from the Consulate Generals office.

Acknowledging the entire issues discussed in the meetings, Consulate General of Nepal Mr. Eshor Raj Poudel said during his short period of tenure so far, he has found the business community in Kolkata very positive to Nepal. He assured that he will take the issues very seriously and discuss with the Secretary of Ministry of Commerce of Nepal and related agencies in Nepal and India so that the issues are solved as soon as possible. He also thanked NICCI and participants from FNCCI and NEFFA for a very constructive brainstorming session with practical suggestions. He also assured that the Consulate Generals office will be fully supportive to make the K2K forum successful.
